An Open Letter to Beth Moore

Dear Beth Moore,

I would like to sincerely thank you and all the other women ministers who have gone before me for unapologetically answering the call of God. Your life has been a trailblazer for others like me to find the boldness, audacity, and courage to also say yes to God when He came knocking.  Because of your example, it was easier for us to keep our hands on the plow when the mean, pious, powerful, and pharisaical-spirit tried to shut us up and send us back home!

When John MacArthur publically dishonored you and made fun of you, many women ministers felt the sting.  You see, most of us have also felt the fire from answering our call and we, too, have been made fun of and made to feel less than, but you have given us hope.  You demonstrated to us how to answer the nay-sayers, haters, and critics with grace and dignity, and for that I am eternally grateful. You reminded us it is God who calls us not a man!

Thank you for showing us the amazing women in the Bible who also answered the call.  Women like the prophetess Deborah also didn’t “go home”. It was a good thing since it was her presence that emboldened and inspired Captain Barak and the entire Israelite army to win the war against the Commander Sisera and the Canaan army. I am also thankful Barak didn’t have the same misogynistic spirit that some leaders in the church today have. He was not too prideful to be able to receive help from a woman of God and because of their partnership Israel had peace for 40 years. We also have Priscilla and Aquila, who were husband-wife, co-leaders in the New Testament church.  Priscilla’s name was usually mentioned before her husband’s in the Bible. This demonstrates to us how significant her ministry was. She also did not “go home” when she and her husband instructed the brother Apollos further on the power and infilling ministry of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible also shows us the ministry of Huldah, Joanna, Susanna, Lydia, and Phillip’s four daughters who prophesied; who showed up and brought their gifts to the table. And I would be amiss if I didn’t mention Mary Magdalene, who Jesus commissioned to tell her brothers, the disciples about the resurrection of our Lord. These biblical examples give us hope that men and women of God can work together to spread the gospel and share the love of God to a world that desperately needs it!

Thank you Beth Moore and those who have gone before me for reminding us that women are not the problem but an answer, an answer to the call of God.  I and others like me feel a great deal of hope to carry on and do the work of God set before us. Women of God have always played a significant role in sharing in the work of the ministry and we do not plan to go away. As a matter of fact, you and other female leaders have shown us just how much we are needed before we “go home” and meet our maker.  We live in perilous times and are fighting principalities no generation before us had to fight. We have more broken families, drug addictions, human trafficking and poverty than ever before. People are still dying every day without ever hearing the gospel. The last thing we need is to send half of God’s army home when there is so much work to do.

So Sister Beth, I and other young ladies like me who are following your example and the example of Christ, promise you and God that we will show up.  We recommit ourselves to God to do our part. We commit to answering the call of God, to serve alongside our God-fearing brothers. We will also put our hands out to help the younger women following behind so that they, too, know there is a place for them. We will continue to preach, to prophesy, to start nonprofits and churches, to love, to give, and to unapologetically share Jesus with a world that desperately needs Him!

“The Lord announces the word, and the women who proclaim it are a mighty throng” (Psalm 68:11)

Sincerely,

-Your sister in Christ
